Yeah I don't hate it. Makes me the miss the airshow.
I'm a fan of the shiny first gen jets, like the B58 bomber. That old school cold war styling has way more sex appeal than the modern jets.

It sounds different depending on the weather. I'm on the other side of mission trails, and when it's crisp and clear, the rumble seems to turn off with a flick of a switch. When it's socked in overcast like today, it tends to fade out like you'd normally expect. It can get pretty loud even over hear. Friends used to live in sort of UTC/eastgate area and it would just be deafening.

It is primarily F/A18s and F35s (along with plenty of Osprey and Helos) that fly out of Miramar, the last F15s flew in 2009. I’ve got two fighter pilot buddies that fly F/A18s. One just flew his last flight for the Vampire Squadron last week at China Lake where he hit 7.2Gs and was ceremoniously sprayed with champagne upon landing!

They could have been 35s. I'm about 5 miles off but they do their turns just North of here. They are going right now. That banshee sound in the turns is really cool.

I don’t recall 15’s being part of the Navy or Marine’s. I had no idea there are 15’s stationed @ Miramar.
A4’s
T5’s
16’s
18’s
The new stuff
Oh yeah, and 14’s…

Ya, I'm guessing they are 35s after looking at pics. I've only seen one before at the air show. We have had thick marine layer and sometimes we can hear but can't see em. 18s are like a dart these are more swept wing. It reminds me of 14s coming in for a landing.

Maybe I'll take a load of greenery to the dump to get a closeup or ride my bike over there.

What ever happened to the F22 Raptor? I understand it had problems but all cutting-edge planes have problems. Maybe the F35 was too similar and the Generals decided to run with the F35's for the long-term.

I work under the flight path in Sorrento Valley. You mostly see F/18s and F22 (they look almost the same as F35s) occasional F15s as well. Definitely see quite a few of the V22 Ospreys which are pretty nuts. Never see A4's, F14 or F4's anymore, I think at those vietnam era planes are gone.

We proved science wrong. With enough thrust, a brick can fly!
(Thinking of the F4 Phantom…)
