I'm researching for a friend who is in the Navy and needs to look for an apartment when she gets off her ship in March. Her budget is around $1300. I've only looked on Trulia so far, but there is nothing near her base.

She doesn't want military housing.

Is this unrealistic?

Which base is she going to be stationed at? Also, $1300 is kind of low, and if she's getting off of her ship in March, she needs to start looking in February. The best thing for her to do is contact the base housing office, because they'll have a list of apartments.

If she wants to live in the area near Miramar she would need to look at UTC or Mira Mesa for housing. She will not find a place on her own for $1,300, but that should be a decent budget with a roommate or two.

I didn't know there was more than 1 base in Miramar. I'll have to ask her.

Do you know if the base housing office has lists of non-military housing? She says she doesn't want military housing.

Thanks so much for any info

The best thing for her to do is contact the base housing office in February, ask them for a list of apartments, and take it from there. The list would be non military housing, because military housing is through a separate company that only handles military housing.
