If the kitchen is dated, I usually don't look any further.
Who cares if it needs "updating?" As long as it's functional, it should be a "GO." Besides, you may require modifications due to your arms.

(Btw, if you're handicap is from military service, then the VA has a program to modify/ADA kitchen & bathrooms for service members. Free of charge, too. Co-worker got $8000 to mod his condo in Oceanside.)

Then again, he's a Marine.

Widen doorways/access bars to bathroom facilities/ramp for entrance/patio. Things that are ADA compliant, mostly.

It's a semi temporary issue with one of my shoulders. I'll most likely not be able to do the DIY work I used to in the future without additional pain/surgeries involved so yeah, updating in the near future does matter to us. Additionally, I sold a LOT of my tools in order to downsize...in preparation for this purchase/move.

The injury isn't service related, although I do have a disability rating for my knees.

There will be compromises in our choice, I'm well aware that the chances of getting all of our boxes checked is next to -0-. We're picking our spots though when it comes to things that need to be updated. We're not opposed to renovating, but not if 80% of the house needs it.
