So I see a news story today about our esteemed Moron- err, Mayor, announcing more infrastructure expenditures in the form of repaving Convoy St. which eliminates 288 yes 288 on street parking spaces. The article says:

"With the resurfacing, some people in Convoy look forward to new biking lanes, while others criticize eliminating 288 parking spaces. NBC 7’s Nicole Gomez has the latest"

https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loc...3305244/?amp=1

Not surprisingly, the article doesnt produce ANYone they claim to be "looking forward" to these new bike lanes, but plenty of business people and their customers criticizing this sweeping change in the area. There is almost ZERO housing in that area. Its not some kind of "live, work, play!" community. It frikkin CONVOY st. NOBODY wants this.

But wait. The article links to another, which states:

City leaders are pushing San Diegans toward vehicle-less mobility whether they like it or not by making changes to roadways and eliminating hundreds of parking spots, this time in one of the city's most popular destinations — Balboa Park.

whether they like it or not.

Do we vote? How many of you who even remotely think it was a good idea to eliminate almost 300 parking spaces near balboa park, ride a bicycle as your primary form of transport?
The changes also mean 2 lane streets are turning into 1 lane. For a protected bike lane NOBODY wants or uses.

Oh, and if they actually do? Guess what other article we find:

https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loc...3304717/?amp=1

Back in 2020, the city banned electric scooters and e-bikes along the boardwalk after beach communities expressed concerns about the dangers of the devices following reports of injuries and, in some cases, even fatalities.

---------------

What kind of IDIOTS are running this city and why is everyone quietly sitting back accepting this utter madness?

At great inconvenience theyre trying to force people into transportation they themselves never use and are also banning because its dangerous.

And the media doesnt even blink, in fact they must be in on the insanity. Who are the "some people" the first article referred to? Have you EVER seen a bicycle rider on Convoy st?

my $0.02 on how this'll play out:
less business for the businesses on Convoy...uproar over lost $/tax revenues...spend more $$$ to put things back more or less how it already is currently (but at least with smooth pavement, not potholes).

Elections have consequences... There is generally ONE party more than the other who prefers getting rid of cars and painting bike lanes. I don't think I need to spell it out for anyone. We may not vote on the bike lanes themselves, but you certainly do vote for the people who like them... (not sure if you do, but I certainly don't)

Would this be the same administration that actually had a 2-way, single lane street?

Urban bike lanes are a great way to donate organs courtesy of the bumper of someone that is chemically impaired or on their cell phone looking down.

Bike on Convoy? Who would want to bike on Convoy? Busy, noisy, distracted drivers, so many driveways, lights, turning traffic.

Sounds like virtue signaling - just like those inane bike lanes they painted and later got rid of in Mira Mesa.

In case anyone is wondering...this post was in response to a frequentlyly banned poster whose sole purpose is to call others knucklehead, insist that real estate is going to take a 50% haircut any day now, and wish us "GOOD LUCK!"...I assume he was banned again, and his contribution to this thread disappeared when that happened.

Being a hard core cyclist, and yes, I have commuted to work for years before WFH. I have NO intention of cycling down Convoy. No way in hell, ever. The next street over is a much better option. Some streets are just a death wish bike lane or no bike lane. Too many bars and drunk drivers near any place like Convoy.

This is a push for more housing in the area that have no parking spaces in hopes they'll be bicycle or ped only. Scary near a bar scene which is now Convoy.

Just saw that other link. What are Ebike users supposed to use in PB and Mission? Mission BL? Another death wish with no bike lanes and that area is covered in Ebikes bikes and rentals. Ridiculous on both counts. The only "other" route is the alley and you'll be going the wrong way on a one way. Forcing bikes into another booze zone with no bike lane at all. Brilliant. How about just enforce existing boardwalk speed zones.

How about the City take back that area S of the pier to widen the rest of the boardwalk like they said they would.
