Have to be careful with bottle brush, too, but I guess you could say that for a lot of trees.

The jacaranda tree was introduced to San Diego by Kate Session. She was a horticulturist and is considered the Mother of Balboa Park. She helped organize and plant many trees in Balboa park and some think that her vision of a lush Park in the middle of a city is the foundation of how Balboa Park developed over the years. read a little Balboa history here:

Love the Jacaranda tree, just keep in away from where ever cars park. HATE the bottlebrush. Yanked those suckers out the minute we moved in.

Lagerstroemia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The major streets of Scripps Ranch are lined with Crepe Myrtle trees.

I can't remember the first name he spoke...it was something like "Jackamunda". He had an accent and I didn't quite understand him. Would appreciate it if someone would let me know the name of this gorgeous tree! It has fern-like green leaves which seem to drop off as the gorgeous heliotrope flowers bloom and the tree is literally covered with these beautiful blooms. Please respond directly to:

Thank you.
Yes, despite the mess when the flowers drop, I love Jacarandas, too.

I was going to suggest crape myrtles too. I have one in NorCal, and they grow well here too. They have a "street tree" reputation, because they don't have an invasive root system and they don't tend to get very large, but they have beautiful pink or white blooms during the summer.

1. They absolutely exude an odor that is HORRIBLE!!
2. They are the messiest tree I know of. My neighbor, across street, has one and for some reason I get more of the mess in my yard and my pool than she does. That is because the breeze carries them directly into my yard. I have spent the last two days trying to clean up my yard.
3. The frond type mess that falls also leaves a YELLOW STAIN on everything; garbage cans, cement, etc.
I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS TREE. SOME MAY FIND IT BEAUTIFUL; I FIND IT A NUISANCE.
