$30K per month income should allow a person to live in almost any area of SD. However, the other half of the equation is down payment.

For first time home-buyers, this is the issue. But most first-time homebuyers don't make $30K per month either.

Most people with that kind of income have owned homes before, and ridden the equity escalator up, and thus have a decent down payment to put down so the monthly mortgage payment is reasonable.
