We are preparing to spend a couple of days in a certain area of San Diego in a few weeks in preparation for our move there. We intend to rent for the first year or two and are wondering if there is a way to avoid the endless wandering around in areas we don't know. I came across a company called Rental Realtors. They apparently make their money from the property owners and assemble rental lists for those interested in renting, at no cost to the renters (supposedly). Is anyone familiar with them or a similar company?

Thank you.

So far I've had a good experience with Century 21 Horizon. Here is their website with a link to a list of their available rental properties:

There are a few agencies like this. They get paid 1-2 months rent from the apartment complex. They mostly will show you MEGA-complexes, places with 100s or 1000s of rentals. No cost to you.

All Realtors can show you rentals, its just whether they want too. To some, its too much work for enough money to cover gas. Other Realtors understand that helping you now could mean helping you and others, with whom you come in contact, later. I've done rentals, because the latter mindset is how it should be done. Just don't pay a fee for someone to show you. Those rental agencies are shady. Also look on Craigslist and Pennysaver for rentals.
