Hello everyone. I am new to this site, but have been reading some of the threads and find them very informative. I am currently working in construction but am attending college online for database administration. My wife is also in nursing school. We have no kids currently and are both in our 20s. I was wondering if anybody had any advice about moving to San Diego such as cost of living, housing, and job market specific to the careers my Wife and I are pursuing.

Cost of living and housing will be much more expensive here than in AL, obviously. So you'll probably have to settle for an older and smaller apartment than what you might be used to. I wouldn't think the construction industry is doing so well with the housing slowdown and I've heard it's gone down. Nurses however are always in high demand, especially here in CA. So once your wife is done with that I think getting a job here should be relatively easy for that profession.

I recently met someone who moved here from Birmingham, AL and she seems to like it and it didn't seem too much of culture shock to her, although it's definitely different as one would expect. I know this is random and unrelated, but I'm a big fan of the show LOST and they mention Jasper, AL which is how I've heard of it and why this thread caught my eye. Anyways, SD is a great city so hopefully you can make it out here!
