Obviously, the beach culture is much more alive down here.
I actually know of someone who lives in Imperial BEACH a few blocks from the water and never goes to the beach--weird!

We almost never go to the beach.

I love the beaches in San Diego. We just spent a beautiful day at Coronado beach near Hotel Del. That beach is rated among the top 10 in the country. We've also found some gorgeous beaches in Orange County (Aliso Beach comes to mind). Not a big fan of L.A. beaches.

Default Coronado Gold Beach

I was delighted to find beautiful gold flecks in the sand on Coronado. You can’t really see it until you are in the water and turn around to look. As the waves recede, the sand becomes sparking gold under the clear water. It is a wonderful beach.

I like San Clemente beach and you can find street parking for free if you are very patient. The same is available in Del Mar.

What Orange County beaches are good besides San Clemente?

Neport Beach South to Coronado are the best beaches. LA has big expansive, but otherwise forgettable beaches.
