May be moving to the area to work at SAIC in La Jolla, and I'm looking at a house that I like in Vista. How bad a commute would that be? I'll probably take advantage of the train.

Thanks!

Vista to La Jolla would be a 40 minute drive without traffic. So if your working a standard daytime job you'll be dealing with rush hour traffic both ways more than likely which would increase that time.

I'm honestly not to sure about that, but I'm wondering if you could take the Sprinter to Oceanside and then take the Coaster down to La Jolla. Does anyone else out there know if this is what Lola would do if she wanted to get to La Jolla from Vista and vice versa?

Vista is not too far from La Jolla. 40 minutes from the time that you ignite your engine til you get out of your car in La Jolla, perhaps. With Traffic you will end up doing about 40+ minutes on the road.

Not sure what you mean, all I was saying was it takes usually about 40 minutes to get from Vista to La Jolla, that's pretty much been my experience. That doesn't mean it's set in stone, just giving a friendly answer to the OP.

Also, how popular/crowded do the trains get? I'm from the Detroit metro originally... and the motor city doesn't do public transportation! lol Seems like a good idea instead of battling the Southern Cal traffic, though...

OK, I think I figured out my own question... train would take at least an hour... if I'm reading the schedules correctly.

How about the commute from Pacific Beach area? Is the east to west commute a *little* easier?

PB is north to south, and it wouldn't be bad since you can just avoid 5. I doubt there is a lot of traffic going up La Jolla Blvd/Prospect St. Maybe 20 mins total?

You could also just bike it depending on where you are in PB.
