Anyone give some insight into differences in service?

I've never had Time Warner. I've always had COX when living here in San Diego County, and overall I'm happy with their services. They aren't perfect but there is no perfect cable company, I feel I'm getting a good deal on the services I have, I have not personally had any issues with my high speed internet, so all in all I would recommend COX.

I use cox but am considering moving to satellite instead. I don't like that cox is so cagey about exactly what their services will cost. They quote you introductory prices but you really have to dig deep to get the number you'll pay after 3 months. For internet however they are pretty much all you got. Cable companies in general are as bad as cell phone companies.

If they offer At&t U-Verse in your area I'd go with that. I had TWC and it was ok, kind of overpriced for what you got. But At&t doesn't have service available everywhere.

Every time I spoke with someone at Time Warner they were pretty good at deal with the customer. I have heard Cox has not been so good with that recently, though I haven't experienced it. However, it basically depends on where you live since Cox and TW areas are divided by location. AT&T is the other option I think, if they've run lines in the area.

I had nothing but good experiences with Time Warner/Roadrunner for years (10+) and just moved into a Cox area. Haven't had any problems with Cox since the move though it has only been a month or so. Really it comes down to where you move though since they don't overlap services.

EDIT: It is just personal preference but I would never go dish. I'd rather not deal with reception issues though they aren't as big a deal in San Diego as they are elsewhere.

Just found out that Cox doesn't serve the pocket I live in so we'll be switching to Time Warner. I hope their pay per view movie selection is better than Cox, though!

Default My $.02 with ATT U-Verse

I currently have AT&T U-Verse. They are pricey but their service is superior. They have excellent hardware, the best user interface for their cable boxes and internet speeds that beat cox and time warner.

With that said, ATT isn't all roses. They have some awkward hardware policies, specifically ( as of Sept. 2008) you can only have one digital video recorder per household. Also there are limited HD channel "resources" per household, meaning only two televisions can be displaying HD channels at once. This is a bit awkward and, though I havn't looked into it, I would think that this issue seems to be a limitation of their technology. They may fix these issues in the future.

I would ask about these issues before signing on. However, if you can look past it, AT&T U-Verse really is a good provider.
