Hi,
I'm planning on moving to SD in early February and would like to enroll in an electrical apprenticeship program. I'm a non-traditional applicant (female, 40 years old) and I know SD has 2 programs (ABC and SD Electrical Training Center) for inside wiremen. Anyone have any info on how difficult it is to gain accepted into these programs?
Thanks

Haffywaffy,

In my other life, I do government relations for the IBEW (Local 569) and am very familiar with the good folks at the SD Electrical Training Center. They are very interested in attracting more women apprentices. Your strong interest makes me think that you would probably like to talk to someone for more information. By the way, there is change in the air in D.C. This will lead to a much more favorable outcome for apprenticeship opportunities in public works.

Please email me at alxhart@aol.com and I will put you in touch with the right person at the Training Center.

Thanks for reaching out, sister.
