What would be a better place to live for a 23 year old single guy making around 42 a year. Would like to be in cheap, safe area close to a beach and minimal traffic. Thanks for all the info.

PB or MB are expensive, heavily trafficked areas with a lot of minor crime (mostly due to alcohol).

There is nowhere that you will find that is truly "cheap", "safe" and "near the beach". Pick any two. I would look at the south side of Ocean Beach which is funkier but less of a party atmosphere than PB or MB.

I agree with Sass in that OB is a better place to reside. Sure, ocassional stoner or two....maybe a hippie, but PB/MB are party central, which is ok to visit, but not to live. Most of the people I've known that live there out grow it by their early 20s. OB is also close to Point Loma, which may have some of the nicest topography in the US.

If you are interested, I just posted some pics of the MB/PB Boardwalk in the "Images of San Diego" thread.

I was in OB this weekend... in the party zone... and man what a dump that place is. I guess when I lived there before I was too stoned to realize it. Unfortunately the tagger plague has found it's way to OB too, which just makes it look worse. The city is so broke it can't even cover up grafitti anymore.
