Hey. Does anybody know why they took down the lifeguard stands at PB and MB? There is only one left. I hope they are going to be replacing them.

I would assume b/c summer is over so most lifeguards won't start working again until May. There are far less people in the water this time of year and the ones that go in tend to be surfers and good swimmers. That is my guess at least.

Do they take them down and put them back up every year? Seems pretty labor intensive.

When the winter storms and high tides come, it starts to make sense. Anything left on the beach is re-claimed by mother nature, including lifeguard towers.

They do remove them every winter and will replace them in spring or early summer

Hi,

I am a San Diegan who has seen many lifeguard towers come and go according to the season. The demand for guards goes down when people are not in the water. It is not just the towers that go down, it is also the lifeguards themselves. They have a skeleton crew in the late fall/winter.
