Driving down the hill from Scripps Ranch to Mira Mesa in the afternoon today, I could see a haze in the atmosphere. Usually the atmosphere is very clear and I can even catch a glimpse of the buildings of La Jolla or the ocean on the way down, but today and even yesterday it has been hazy looking. Does anyone know what this haze actually is? Is it smog, mist, a marine layer?

It was a marine layer. Northern County gets very little smog.

I would guess it is fog that does not completely burn off during the daytime. It has been that way in the So. Bay as well and it was very foggy all day on Sunday at the Cabrillo Monument, which is unusual. It has been very foggy at night for the last couple of nights too.

It was a strange day today. It started off sunny and bright, with no marine layer. I had to be somewhere at 10:30 in Mira Mesa, and when I was driving back around noon, I saw some clouds around the Friars Road exit on the 163. But downtown, it was sunny and bright.

And long before the marine layer normally rolls in, there was fog right on down to the tops of the buildings downtown. Very strange!

I was in Vista all day and I didn't see anything that resembled the marine layer, but later in the afternoon it looked a little hazy. My girlfriend was in Carlsbad all day, and said they were really socked in by the marine layer. The microclimates here are amazing.

I love when it's dark and foggy here though. It looks cool under the street lights.

I work close to the north end of Balboa Park and it was CRAZY foggy up there this morning around 8. Even driving down Friars Road on my way to work -- once I got by the 163 the whole area was engulfed with fog! Looked sweet!
