I am looking to check out the micro-brew scene in San Diego. Has anyone done a tour of some of the breweries around? How was the tour as far as cost, experience, enjoyment of the beer?

I haven't done an actual tour of a brewery. I have been to the New Belgium brewery gift shop but the tours were full. I am looking for a place that might give a 30min-hour tour with some samples.

Thanks!

I have not gone on a tour, but when walking by Green Flash Brewery here I spotted this van.

This is the brewery:

If you're just looking to sample a bunch of local microbrews in one location, this is a good event:
San Diego Festival of Beer

There is this one also
Fairs & Festivals: San Diego International Beer Festival at Del Mar Fairgrounds, Chevrolet Arena on 6/22/12 - UTSanDiego.com

But there also quite a few other events that occur during the year. The Beer Week event is probably the coolest as there are various restaurants throughout the county that participate and do pairings etc.
There is no question that SD is a beer mecca. Most notably big ballsy IPA type beers, but you can find an incredibly wide variety from light to dark to experimental.

I dont know anyone that has ridden the sdbeerbus, but have seen the packed buses near Ballast Point weekly.

IMHO the tasting rooms are great to stop off at when you want. Unless you are with a big group or visiting SD and want a quick tour would I recommend the bus.

The SD Brewers Guild really is the main official hub for all beers in SD and whats going on.

The SD Beer Festival is a better deal because it's a charity event. Drink beer and write it off your taxes!

Yes, I totally agree cruitr!
This is the one that I have been going to for the past few years and writing it off as its going to the SD History Museum. Its probably my favorite event due its smaller size and seeing many of the same faces. Plus having it in the Museum makes for some cool buzzed factoids about SD when wandering off

You could also pop into the Mission Brewery facility in the East Village.

They're open from 12-8 every day except Sunday, when they are open 12-5

The La Jolla Wine Tours trip is on our "to do" list. It looks like micro-breweries are included in the tour: https://plus.google.com/103473368987...ut?gl=us&hl=en
