Hello, I've already posted this in the OC forum but thought it would be a good idea to repost in the SD forum as well. My sister is moving to SoCal from Nashville, TN where she currently makes around $50,000 a year. I researched her new job descriptions in CA and I converted her salary to "SoCal terms" and found that she'd make somewhere around $88,000 per year. She's single, no pets, and no debt. She graduated from Vanderbilt University and has a master's degree in civil engineering. She has two job offers, one in the San Clemente/ San Juan Capistrano area in OC and another in Oceanside/ Carlsbad. The only time I've ever spent in SoCal was in Los Angeles (doing the tourist things) so I have no idea what these areas are like. She's just interested in a one bedroom apartment or a small condo. Will she be able to make it?

I'd pick the SJC/San Clemente area in a heartbeat. Much more to do, lots of great little funky areas in SC, Dana Point and SJC. A very close and beautiful drive to Laguna Beach.

On the other hand, Oceanside is one of the biggest gang crime areas in San Diego county, totally military with its hard core attitude.
