Hi. I 've been in Los Angeles since my family moved out here when I was fourteen years old. I am done with LA. I need to get out of this town before I break.
I tend to fit in well in Santa Monica, Venice beach, and other beach neighborhoods;however, they are no longer affordable.
My San Diego dream: go to school, work in a new age book store, do a lot of yoga and develop my talent as a screenwriter.
Any suggestions about where I might fit in and find an affordable apartment. I can afford $850-900. Also, an inexpensive place to stay for the weekend while I check it out.

Thanks,
Cynthia

OB, hands down. It is hippy central in San Diego plus you can probably even rent a room (but not an apartment or house) for that much with other people in the 20-30 age range.

You remind me of our babysitter. She babysits and works in a coffee shop. She is very hippie-ish. She never buys anything new--relies on hand-me-downs, cheap happy hours and finding things in allies. She lives in Ocean Beach, with two roommates.

I grew up in Leucadia. Upscale hippies is a good description. People are kind of "out there", but there are beautiful, custom homes interspersed with old beach shacks. BMWs, Benzes, Audis are common.

I thought that's what true hippies were. Then I moved to NorCal for college and I've visited Santa Cruz, CA...holy good god...there are hippies there! True ones...make Leucadia hippies look like a joke.

I think you'll fit in perfectly. The hippies are somewhat strange, but not trashy like in Santa Cruz.
