Hello All,
My parents are retiring and they are looking for a place that is calm and clean, with orderly neighbors yet has some proximity to shopping. I have been steering them in the direction of Fallbrook and Bonsall (we are from Ohio and I bet Fallbrook is nice and temperate). They were looking at Temecula, and I thought it was too far inland.

Any ideas? Fallbrook/Bonsall are these good areas? I know the views are phenomenal, and we actually found properties with land as we are used to out here. Is there a downside to these communities?

Other places we have looked at are San Marcos and Vista. Any ideas?

Default Fallbrook Area

Fallbrook area is definately a nice place to settle down. It is on the very outskirts of San Diego and would be considered rural out here. Its a little bit of a drive to get to shopping though. The land and rolling hills are very nice.

Temecula is northeast and you will find a ton of deals as this is one of the hardest hit areas in all of Southern California. You can find land in and around the Wine Country areas. Temecula would have more shopping closer.

Certain parts of North Escondido may be an option- One are called Hidden Meadows seems to attract retirees.

San Marcos and Vista are going to be a little more San Diego proper and you will also see increased prices.

You may want to find a free home search service that will let you search the MLS for these areas. A good one that I have used is www.sandiego-home-search.com but search the internet.

Fallbrook and Bonsall are different areas.... Fallbrook is a small city with homes that range from working-class to ranches, Bonsall is basically a development geared towards upper-end ranchettes, mostly with private roads, covenants, etc. Bonsall is a fairly exclusive area. Both are fairly remote and an aging person with transportation issues might not find it accessible. I don't know that Temecula is really that much further out since Fallbrook and Bonsall are essentially semi-rural anyway. Temecula is a more standard suburban area that will feel more crowded and busy than Fallbrook.

Temecula is about 20 degrees warmer than the coast, can be very hot in the summers. Try the area around the Fallbrook Golf Club on Gird Road in the Gird Valley area of Fallbrook. Great weather. Lots of social events for retirees. I'm sure your parents will love it.

Smile I am looking to retire in Fallbrook

Does anyone have ANY input about East View Street?
Also where the nearest Kaiser facilities might be? Thank-you very much in advance!
