One thing SD will never have is LA's boring flat topography

Are you kidding? SD traffic is not even close. SD has traffic on its freeways during the AM and PM rush hours, but other than that it moves very well. LA has traffic everyday allday, except from 11:00pm until 4:00am. This is just the result from the pop density.

I live in OC and get stuck on the 5 in north/central SD county more often than I get stuck on the 405 in LA.

Every study that's been conducted about traffic shows L.A. to be MUCH worse than San Diego. Here's an example:

INRIX National Traffic Scorecard (http://scorecard.inrix.com/scorecard/Top100Metros.asp - broken link)

And the idea that L.A. has more freeway capacity than San Diego is just false. The truth is that most U.S. cities have a much better freeway system than what you get in L.A.

Highway & Motorway Fact Book: Index

Only about 50% of L.A. proposed freeways were built. In San Diego, it's about 95%. The only little piece that wasn't completed was the proposed connector between the 805 and the 5/15 interchange in the Southcrest/Shelltown area. The ramps were built, however, as seen on this map:

Yet much of the populace has been brainwashed into believing that even higher densities will make the traffic situation better.
