My husband and I are considering moving to the San Deigo area and I am looking for advice on where to find a home in an area that would suit our needs and lifestyle. We have 4 kids between 16 and 21 so an area that would fit them is important too. We would like to be near the beach and cafe's and restaurants and some nightlife as in bars etc and shopping areas. High schools and community college are important too. I am a nurse and looking for close to a hospital and prefer not to have to do a lot of driving to and from work. Any advice on where to look? We are going to Carlsbad in a few weeks and will be checking out neighborhoods and housing in the San Deigo area. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. Cost of homes would be appreciated too. We currently live in Chicago suburbs.

Clairemont section. It's a nice middle class family area.

You would be close to lots of shopping. Near beach. Near Mission Bay. Short drive to downtown, La Jolla, Balboa Park. It's central to everything.

Sharp Hospital very close. Also not far from La Jolla Hospital (Scripps?), and a few others.

Mesa Community College is in Clairemont. Several other colleges just a few miles away.

Homes are in the mid 300s - and up. Also townhouses and condos for less.

If you want to find it on a map, zip codes are 92111 and 92117.

Middle and High schools in Clairemont can be a disaster. Be very careful with schools in the older parts of San Diego.
