I believe it's like 90$ or something like that according to people I've known who got them.

They check throughout the green line because of the large numbers of homeless that are on that line. They are especially aggressive between Morena/Linda Vista and SDSU.

His fine almost 2 yrs ago (8-09) was 165.00. I bet the fines are more now cause its a revenue maker for the city.

You're probably right as that was a long time ago.

I heard it's more like $180, but they may have gone up again.

I've never gotten a ticket but I understand that if you're caught, the ticket could be up to $120

The OP stated that his ticket two years ago was $165, and I can guarantee you that the citations have gone up since then.

I tried it once for free , and got caught. This was about a year ago, and cost me about $150. Obviously they have to make the ticket cost a prohibitive amount, or everyone would ride for free. But $150 is way, way too much. They could probably make the ticket cost $10 (twice the cost of an all day pass) and that would be enough to discourage people from riding for free. Certainly $50 would be more than enough. $150 is absurd.

I think maybe 20 years ago, they started at $50. There are lot of people that get tickets (homeless and others), that don't carry id, and give false address information. The money for these tickets are never collected, so others have to pay for it.

With a $10 fine I'd think hardly anyone would buy a ticket. They'd need to get caught more than half the time for there to be any "penalty", and there aren't nearly enough security to check that often.

I'm not sure $150 is absurd, especially if it's clearly stated beforehand, which I don't think is the case.
