I am a teacher with 6 years exp and a masters in teaching reading. I am moving to San Diego and looking for a teaching job. Is it impossible to find a job there? What is it like for teachers? Thank you!

With a mandated 11.6 billion in education budget cuts this year, this obviously isn't the best time to be seeking a teaching job in California. This is probably the absolute crest of the state's budget crisis and a record number of teachers were cut from district payrolls last month.
Also do not underestimate the amount of time and red tape it will take to get a CA state teaching credential. In addition to getting a CA teaching license, you will need to get a CLAD certificate and have your fingerprints processed by the DOJ. This will probably take more than six months. Many applicants do not pass the CLAD examination the first time they take it, though if you are a reading specialist with experience in teaching reading to speakers of languages other than English, you will have some of the background knowledge already. Presumably you have already checked with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (or as they like to call it on the East Coast: "The Cali Commi for Teach Cred") for requirements. If not, here's the link
