I am planning on moving to San Diego in November, but just out of curiosity has anyone ever been up around Yucaipa? My uncle lives in Corona, which is close but i havent talked to him. I am just curious the avg rate for a studio or 1 bed appt in Yucaipa.

Yucaipa is gonna be pretty cheap, especially compared to San Diego. I used to work out in San Bernardino and Yucaipa is on the outskirts, past Redlands. That area really boomed with new houses in the late 1990s, not sure how it's surviving the housing meltdown. There must be some deals to be had, but boy, is it ever hot and dusty out there in the summer. And smoggy. This San Diego beach kid had culture shock out there!!

ok so SD is definitely better then and if i can afford it i should at least try there first? i really want to live in SD because having lived inland up in the hills of Vermont my whole life i want to be right by the ocean and particuraly not in a desert. although i hear the san bernardino mountains are beautiful but i dunno never seen them...

You need to take a visit before you make any decision. Yucaipa and San Diego are worlds apart.

San Diego is urban with "California weather". Yucaipa is rural and a desert; hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and dry almost year round.

You can manage without a car in San Diego. Don't even think about it in Yucaipa.

The two don't even compare.

There's a reason why it's so cheap out there.

The nice part of Yucaipa is the area called Oak Glen. It is the foothills of the SanBernardino mtns immediately north of Yucaipa. It is a nice area.

I'm not sure "desert" is the right description for Yucaipa. At least you are close to great hiking up the mountain to Big Bear.

Technically Yucaipa is a desert. But it is in no way like Palm springs and those areas.
