Hi

I'm planning to move toSan Diego this summer. I'm planning to buy a single family home in the range $500k-$600k within a good public school district. When I search for single family SD housing online, I often come across 'pets allowed' or 'pets restricted" signs. What does it mean? Are all the homes situated in gated communities and have restrictions on what you can do with your yard and how many pets you can own? Can I buy a an all independent home with a private pool and the freedom to do what I feel with my yard, and keep as many pets as I want? I'm looking at RB,Poway or Carlsbad,of course for schools. I appreciate your valuable info.

I don't really know of any SFH developments that are full-on no pets, and they'd certainly be few and far between, but many areas restrict dog breeds. The city of La Mesa doesn't allow pit bulls, for example, and various HOA's may have the same CC&R's to restrict certain dog breeds and things like Llamas, goats, and chickens. Golden retrievers and cats will be everywhere in the areas you mentioned, so I wouldn't worry too much if you have mainstream pets and breeds.

Thanks for the reply. Should I be mostly living in a gated community scenario for my budget which I'm not vey comfortable with (I'd feel like a prisoner). I'm not used to community living. Here in NJ, SFH are just totally independent like I'd drive down my driveway to join a main public street. I'd probably be multi cat household and would like to make some alterations for the fencing etc.,
