Does the advertised apartment area include balcony/patio area too? I was talking to an apartment manager in San Diego today and she said that by law, they are not supposed to include the balcony/patio area in the advertised apartment area. But looking at the floor plans etc online, it doesnt seem to add up.

Does anyone know what the rule is?

Thanks

balconies and outside space are almost never quoted as square footage. However things like closets or other interior space may be.

You are right. I verified it from another apartment complex manager also.
