Have been reading these posts for at least a year, so I KNOW there's lots of great advice on this thing ! So I will thank you in advance ! I would like to relocate to SD on a very small income (under $2,800/month)-- I know it sounds crazy (I've looked at apt. prices)--I am over 55 & retired. I LOVE Babloa Park & would like to live near-- I am VERY adaptable and 'young' for my age! I enjoy the diversity & vibrancy of SD ! Is this dream crazy, or do I have a chance ?

You want my honest opinion?

Wait for it.............

Here it comes...........

............BOOM!
You might be pushing it,if you know what I mean.Either find a way to get at least a little more income or find another city to live in.With that much money a month you can make it,but not by much or you can live in a grimmey part of the county to keep more money in your pocket due to a lower cost of living.I don't know if you are willing to do that. Also factor in bills for electrics, water, car expenses(if you drive)food and all the other cost of living things.

It's never to late to make yourself happy. You'll have to make trade offs materially but the quality of life is well worth it.

I know Balboa Park is beautiful as is most of San Diego and I can imagine why so many would like to live there, but so many other places in California as well as other states can offer beauty for much less. You say you are retired, but can you work full or part time? If you can get that income up a little and do not care about traveling, going out much etc, you can live in San Diego. Is it so important to you that you want to give up most of your social life? Everyone has to answer this themselves. For me, no way, I will take my income (mostly investments and SS) combined with hubby's, live someplace that offers beauty, a good life and yet, gives us enough extra $$s to do a few things.

You will have to rent something. Either as a roommate, or a separate place (I know someone living in North Park near Balboa Park where the separate garage has a room above it that is rented out).

Here's one:

It can be done. I rent a one bedroom cottage in North Park for $765. It's 1/2 block from the bus line, close to two freeways and shopping.

It is no mystery to me why I always look for your point of view O, you're just the best! Unfortunately I haven't been spreading my love around enough.

I live on 1700 a month in la mesa. 2800 a mth is fine. There are plenty of nice places to rent for 1200-1500. I dont see the problem.

Default Thanks To All !

Thanks for these great responses ! I could work part-time & am flexible in where I would/could live --- have survived on VERY minimal income before --- my income is small, but SD has so much to offer that is truly FREE (beach, parks, etc., etc.), I think I could be happy there ! Any other ideas/suggestions, I WILL listen --- THANKS !!!
