I'm noticing several houses listed for sale in Encinitas Ranch. Can you North County experts give me the low down on this area? (Schools, shopping, proximity to the beach, "vibe") Thank you!

Encinitas Ranch is a newer area of Encinitas (built in the early 1990s). It's generally the area east of the 5, straddling Leucadia Boulevard west of El Camino Real. The Encinitas Ranch golf course is up there too. It used to be the Ecke family poinsettia ranch before it was built up with houses.

It's mostly larger homes and estate properties, some of it tract homes, some custom houses. It's about 2 miles to the ocean, I'd say. Generally speaking, Encinitas schools are pretty good. There are couple in the district that aren't so great (Ocean Knoll elementary comes to mind), but I don't think Encinitas Ranch feeds into those. It's close to the El Camino Real shopping corridor where basically you find everything you'll need (Target, Trader Joes, fast food, all that sort of stuff).
As far as "vibe," it's a bedroom community. Some of it is gated. It doesn't strike me as a block party, kids all play in the cul-de-sac together kinda neighborhood, but that depends on the street I suppose. It depends on who lives near you. So vibe I guess I'd say it's a fairly exclusive part of Encinitas with newer, more expensive homes.
I'd suggest driving through and checking it out to see if it suits you. Good luck on your search.
