I'm moving out to San Diego from NYC in June, and just got my place and all that sort of stuff figured out. But, with the move out there, I was planning on getting all new furniture, so was wondering if people have any reccomendations of stores to look at etc. I don't really know any of the west coast chains, or independent stores that you have, and wanted to start looking before I got out there. I know that sometimes it can take a couple of months to get couches, so figured starting to look early was a good idea.
Thanks,

Adam

Depends what you are looking for. All the national chains are here... Ethan Allen , Bassett, Ashley. That means very oversized mass-produced furniture.

If you are looking for more modern / high-end stuff, check out the Cedros Design District in Solana Beach.

Guys, Ethan Allen is some pretty good quality stuff.

The design district in Solana has 'cooler' stuff (I bought my bedroom set there), but I wouldn't call Ethan Allen mass produced chain junk like say Jeromes, Plummers or Mor.

Ethan Allen is like the furniture you keep for 15 years and give to your kids when they move out. It's never the trendiest, but classic.

I also think Pottery Barn has good stuff, but you pay.

I've had friends who have had luck with Plummer's http://www.plummers.com/ on Miramar Road.

Pomegranate on University in Hillcrest also has some cool furniture.

Ethan Allen is definitely not junk - nor Bassett or Ashley. But it is definitely mass-produced. That's not necessarily a bad thing at all. It's way better than the chinese-made junk you find up on Mira Mesa blvd.

Definitely +1 for Metropolis (I got some amazing stuff at their warehouse sale last year), and Pomegranite (I am sitting in a leather chair I got there)

I would recommend going up on Miramar Road between the 805 and the 15. There's about 1000 furniture stores there.
