Mostly Latino, Somali, and Vietnamese but a little of everything else. A lot of filthy apartment complexes. A few remaining small cottages mixed in . Crime is high, a 15 year old kid got killed in the park last year. Home prices low, it's pretty ugly back there. Nice park though. Rule of thumb for eastside SD... stay east of 54th. Other side of City Heights towards 805 is probably slightly better if that's your bag, mostly still homes over there.

Lets see here. I live in the apartments in the corner of university and 54th. The complex itself is not bad. Since its on university however. You tend to hear the sirens and helicopters a lot.

Yes. It is not one of the best neighborhoods. But it is fine for my wife and i. Actually purchasing new construction condo next to the apartment.

The area is definitely urban. Lots of asian, black, latino. Somali concentration tends to be between university 54-50.

I did have someone break into my car this year and steal my stereo. At least not the car.

I can hear ambulance siren just now heh. But i come from logan heights another not so good neighborhood. So "bad areas" are not new to me. I'll let you know how it is after we move in in august.

I say if you drive it shouldn't be that big of a deal. I just would not recommend street walking late at night.

I recently met someone who owns a house in Shelltown, and he said it was ok. But that's for him.

I have family with a house in Shelltown. I actually think it's a better area than that section of City Heights.

I've always perceived shelltown as even more "ghetto" than my own neighborhood of Logan Heights. But I've never lived there so I can't say.
