I recently went to the Oceanside train station and can report it is just as it ever was, filled with a few marines, lots of guys that look like gang members, some Jehovah's Witnesses (all Hispanic), a few disabled folks, lots of folks in stained clothes, lots of folks who look down-and-out, and some drifters. I didn't see anyone getting on or off a Sprinter train. Many folks wore strange military inspired clothes despite being obvious civilians. It seems to be in a time warp. Am I the only one who gets this sense about Oceanside's train station?

Oh you forgot to check out the restrooms! The toilet stalls have no doors on them then there is that really odd music that plays overhead near the burger king. Stay clear of the parking structure after dark. Weird aromas from people smoking non cigarettes in there!

Re smells, what about the aroma of burnt frying oil emanating from that disgusting Burger King? That smell seemed to be ever-present.

As for the restroom, I didn't make it in there and am so happy I didn't.

I also saw some strange 80s and 90s hairdos, such as an older black guy who looked like he was part of DeBarge and an older white guy dressed in bright printed pants from the 80s/90s. This is what I mean by time warp.

Sounds like all you needed was, a guy wearing a Michael Jackson Thriller Jacket.
But Seriously, i thought that they renovated, or was suppose to renovate the Oceanside Transit Area?

Even if they renovated the structure, they couldn't very well go about renovating the people, could they?!?!?

It sounds like some of the more interesting corners of late 70's Chicago. Makes me want to go check it out . . .

They don't seem to have renovated it so much as they have added to it (Sprinter) and added a parking garage next door.

That is a shame. When the transit center opened in 1984, there was a lot of civic pride. It was clean & safe, safe enough to take your little kids down to check out the trains.

What time of day was this? I've only been there a few times, usually in the late afternoon or morning, and it hasn't been anything like you describe. I usually reach it by the Sprinter and there have almost always been quite a few people getting on or off with me.

I give you the bathrooms--I wouldn't voluntarily use a public restroom in any kind of train or bus station. I've never seen one yet that wasn't horrible and disgusting.
