Hey all,

My friends and I will be in San Diego this weekend for a conference and need some ideas on some cool bars........Can you name a few of your favorite dance clubs, martinit bars, laid back bars located near gaslamp.....We are staying near the convention center, but will have a car......Age 28-32 professionals.......Thanks........

There are many great bars close to the Hard Rock Hotel. It is right at the entrance of the Gaslamp Quarter when you enter from the Convention Center.

Keep the car in the garage. You won't need it. Gaslamp is the epicenter of the San Diego bar and restaurant scene. Gaslamp is a very walkable area and only a few feet from the convention center. Just ask your hotel concierge to point you in the right direction.

Here are some of the eateries in Gaslamp: Welcome to gaslamp.org | Shop Dine Play Gaslamp - Dining (http://www.gaslamp.org/directory/dining.html - broken link)
House of Blues is my personal favorite but it's the longest walk from the convention center. If you're looking for a first-class nightclub, Stingaree is the place to be. Looking to do a little country two-steppin'? Double Deuce is a great place: The Double Deuce - SignOnSanDiego.com

I don't get downtown much. Overpriced. Parking is expensive. My favorite bar/ restaurant is Oggis on Fenton Parkway near where I live. I've spent way too much time there drinking Pale Ales on the patio.

the hard rock has some cool places, but you'll need to be on the guest list or be willing to pay for bottle service. otherwise, anything up 5th from the convention center should be good. there's really too many places to even list. i don't live in SD, but when i visit (usually a handful times every year) I usually also end up at the bitter end or one of the irish pubs in the area.
