Why do we need an address as a f/u? Oh, it's a chain?

Il Fornaio I just thought some more detail of where it is and the correct spelling of the name might help people who read this thread and might want to eat there. Was I out of line?

Not so much - appreciate you asking. Also appreciate the spelling correction (could have kept it just as that).

If you want authentic Italian food made from the family and run by the family with great prices then everyone is missing out on Volarie's. Hands down great, and I mean great authentic family italian food.

Forget all the other restaurants mentioned those are to much upscale and "americanized" box type eateries. I was refered to Volarie's by two different Italian families that have lived in San Diego for 2-3 generations.

Excellent food and $8 yes $8 a plate. You can't beat it.

Location: Hole in the wall house next to MCRD. I kid you not, it's next to a Squidco ie Bait Shop and Porn Store. Right near the Midway main Post Office in Loma Portal which is also Point Loma.

I can also give finner dining recommendations if you like for good italian food that blows doors of what's been mentioned. I have a client that reviews these things professionally and have been confirmed by previously mentioned Italian families. Here are a few Old Trieste in Bay Park area. Roseville ($$$) in Point Loma plus Old Venice (Point Loma). I know of a few others on the Penninsula or around Mission Valley. As for myself and girlfriend Volarie's is more than enough.

Ooh, and iIthink alot of these posts are pretty accurate of SD. I have lived here for over 12 years and can see alot of points of view.

I only laugh about the drivers because that's a joke. People drive rather fast here, or you have tourists that are confused. Easy to tell who is who, and no big deal. Plus this town is loaded with people from somewhere else. So how is it that SD has such bad drivers and drivers who "can't drive in the rain" when majority of people under say 45 or 40 are not even native? How many of these people obtained their drivers license, or grew up driving in San Diego? None. I don't understand the logic.

I will try Volarie's...thank you.

As for the driver comment I made and pretty much getting crucified over- which supports one of my original points on how defensive people when you point out a flaw in Americas Finest City.

I read posts here that come down on people for having an opinion that may not be in line with the majority. I think everyone here has certain things they love about the city. Maybe some of my "tell it like it is" east coast traits are shining through.

The logic is simple- the driving in San Diego stinks whether you are a native or a transplant. I'm not saying native san diegans can't drive. I'm saying the backdrop (people from everywhere, people here for different reasons: work or play) make for an interesting mix on the roadways. I do think alot of people here forget what its like driving in adverse weather conditions (if they've come from somewhere else)...I can't imagine some of these drivers I see around here driving on black ice or thunderstorm conditions, but that's irrelevant because it doesn't happen here. At times I feel safer driving on black ice on route 77 headed up to Cleveland than I do on route 5 heading to Carlsbad in August.

You are right there are quite a few people (tourists or new transplants) that have no clue what they are doing and driving slow in the process and there are quite a few people who have realized there are too many cars and too few cops so 80 is the new 65. Disasterous combo if you ask me.

This is one of the things I can't stand from some people on this forum. If you offer an opposing opinion/viewpoint on something that was said that is seen as "defensive" for whatever reason. This is a TWO WAY FORUM where people from both sides of an issue can and should be heard. Yes some of us did not agree with your assessment on the drivers and we expressed that, how is that being defensive? I can say when some of us shoot back others get defensive with that, same difference. Some of you seriously need to take a look in the mirror b/c I am so tired of that double standard. You can tell it like YOU think it is and others will tell it how THEY think it is, same thing there. And then people can read both opinions to get a better picture of what is being discussed from both sides.

No it doesn't, it depends on the person. I like how fast they drive here, others probably won't. Your opinion on drivers here is not "logic".

Well the poster above made an assumption that my posts along with a few others were coming down on native san diegans for what I percieve as bad driving around here. I consider myself apart of this city even though I've lived here for just 5 years. Maybe he thinks we are different.

I didn't say all drivers are bad here (thats flawed), I said I've seen some of the worst driving here (big difference), added what I've seen constantly on the roads and some of the conditions here that would support my point, sorry for leaving out the statistics (although they are typically flawed) to further my point.

I would love for someone to change my opinion by countering with great italian restuarants (attacking the merits) like some posters did, rather than taking the low road and telling me I have a provincial mindset (attacking the poster) or the other common posts littered throughout the forum ("if you point out flaws here you can't be happy anywhere"). Some people are just full of opinions and some people seem to support their opinions better than others.

Fair enough and you have a point, I see a little better now what you were referring to. Nothing wrong with some constructive criticism and you've been more objective, tactful, and fair minded than many other people have been on here in the past with their criticisms I think. My rant/previous post wasn't really directed at just you, but just reminded me of stuff like that I've seen in the past on here.
