Lakeside is still pretty good in the hills, around 67 it is really bad, as bad as El Cajon flats at least. Santee is still pretty much the same. Schools are mediocre, housing costs are lower than they've ever been. I would think a skilled auto mechanic could always find work somewhere, but who knows.

Santee has improved big time within the last five years.More shopping options, property values are up and there are a few housing developments that popped up sense about 2006-present out in the hills.

Santee is awesome. The whole "clantee" thing changed while I was in middle school around 96. I remember when they put the trolley in and the rest was dirt. To me it's not the same place I grew up but I would take it over La Mesa or El Cajon any day. Schools might not be the best overall there not bad. It will get better once they finish the freeway. And they have the lowest sales tax in the county.

Default Moving to Santee

My family and I are moving to Santee next week. I like the town. It seems to have a mix of some working class to upper middle class homes as well as some lower income/apartment dwellers, but I haven't encountered anywhere I've felt unsafe. It seems as "normal" to me as a native midwesterner as anywhere I've been in SoCal. (I wonder if that makes sense to anyone) As a previous poster said, plenty of shopping with a nice plaza, the trolley stop, and a variety of restaurants as well. My daughter is enrolling in Santana HS, so I'm hoping it's a decent school. (I think it is) In any event, the people we've worked with there so far have been very helpful. A year from now I'm sure I'll be able to be far more insightful.

I've been here the past 3,5 years.
Sit at the Starbucks across from Santana when school gets out and you can hear the topic of choice amongst the teenagers. Lots of meth going around. We had weed at my school and that was it, anyone that did anything else was considered a loser.

I've heard West Hills is a much better school. That area is actually pretty nice as well.

Yeah, West Hills is a better school in a nicer neighborhood than Santana is.
