Actually, I am originally from South Florida (Miami) and tolerate the FL summers much, much better than the so called dry heat. I never felt in FL that the heat was too intense to be outside, like I feel here. On the other hand, FL may be muggy, but you sweat alot, and that cools your body down. Plus you tend to get a cross breeze near the coastal areas in FL, so I don't think it is that bad. Some people just don't like feeling sticky and sweaty the minute they step outside. But if you are born and raised there you are used to it. I still infinitely prefer FL heat to AZ heat tho'

They live on the Scottsdale/Carefree border, their home is a show place and the area is outstanding. To them the heat is nothing. In June they sleep with no air, we thought we would melt away when we stayed with them.

I would add, weather isn't the only thing to consider, I hate the weather in Texas but love the state. As for ethnic restaurants, I think there are as many in Phoenix and the prices are probably as good as San Diego, it is just Phoenix is so spread out, it may be harder to find them.

I do hope, someday you can return to San Diego, I will add, when you return you may not find that 600 sq ft apt quite as appealing as you think you will.

Carefree is about 5 degrees cooler though. I find the difference between 110 and 105 to be HUGE! 110 is just unsuitable for human habitation!

I agree with you, OP. I'm also from S. Fl, but I never felt it was impossible to be outside the way you do in extreme desert heat. I have always lived in hot climates, (FL, NV, TX, and even Hong Kong which is hot and humid) and it's finally wearing me down. I, too, would like to move to SD, which is why I read this forum so much. I don't want to pull my dd away from her school and friends but I can't see spending the rest of my life here either! Good luck in getting out.

Cooling down is exactly what doesn't happen when you sweat in a humid environment. Because it is humid, the sweat doesn't evaporate and because it doesn't evaporate, no heat is removed from your body.

hey, guess what? Read what I said, I agree with you, I can't stand temps above 100, but to many this is fine. I love Laughlin, but hate the weather in the summer, spring and even fall. We were there a few years ago with friends, we pulled up in front of the casino/hotel at 4pm, temp outside 126 degrees. We were there 3 nights and I left the hotel twice. Once to go to another casino for breakfast and once, with the group of us to visit another casino (drove of course) for about an hour.I may have walked from one to another at night. My stupid husband, in mid day walked about 3 blocks to INnOut, he had to have his fix..Talk about addictions!!1

I would dissagree about 5 degrees, when it is above about 95 of so, it is hot, I don't care if it 5 degrees, 105 is just as bad as 110.

comparing SD to Phoenix...of course SD is better.

We know the weather is great out here and there is so much to do. People put alot of stock in these things IMO too much, but people move for weather and to keep themselves occupied- not me personally.

Yes. My point is that for me (I am married but no kids) it is way better to live as a renter in an amazing, albeit very expensive, place than to have the so called "American Dream" in a place that is cheaper but less pleasant. Everyone's situation is different though. I think it would be really tough in SD if I had children to think about.

I stand corrected. Still think FL summers are way better though.

I live in Florida and summer here is hot, sticky, uncomfortable. Having stated that I will take the Florida heat over the extreme dry heat in Phoenix or Palm Springs. Even though it doesn't cool much in the evenings, it does drop to 78-79 degrees and you get somewhat of a breeze. In Phoenix and Palm Springs it goes down to about the mid 90's at night. Breeze, I don't want to feel the breeze there in the summer. It feels like someone is aiming a blow dryer at you when you feel a breeze. It is HOT!!!. 110-115-120 is just too hot even if it is dry. Hot is hot.

As for San Diego, I think it is one of the nicest big city I have visited. Beautiful weather. Walking outdoors on a summer evening is very pleasant. It can get warm (78-80), but rarely does it get hot. I want to be outdoors when I am in San Diego.

I will conclude by stating that yes, if you live fairly comfortable in San Diego(able to afford a home), be grateful that you live there. Great weather year round.
