There is a single-family home on 54th in 92115 that we're thinking of renting, was wondering the safety of the area?? We're new to California, so any advice is appreciated.

54th and what? If it's 54th & El Cajon or University, stay away from it!

On 54th in between Collier Ave and Baja Dr, according to the map. Doesn't look like it touches El Cajon.

I just looked it up on Google, and I think it's near the College area, which is looks ok to me. Sassberto can give you more insight on the neighborhood if he's online later. The exact address is 4854 54th Street.

It's fine as far as safety but be careful about the mini-dorms, they are all over the place in that area. Inspect your neighbors very carefully, SDSU students can be worse than thugs.

The area is pretty hood.I would avoid it.A little more up on College Avenue say north of Arosa Street is ok but it is kind of crazy because of the SDSU students.

Don't do it. I used to live at 54th and El Cajon and while the residential areas look fine, the gas station where you'll get your gas has frequent drug deals. You cannot walk without looking over your shoulder and I used to walk with a tazer(not sure if that's legal) in my pocket. My car and my boyfriend's car both got burglarized.

I'm sorry, but I don't buy the accuracy of a lot of the answers being posted here. 54th Street between Collier and Baja Drive is several blocks north of El Cajon Boulevard. Other than the student rowdiness issue, I don't see any problems there, at least not with the actual non-student residents. You will get some spillover crime from south of El Cajon Boulevard, but this is not the "hood" and it isn't dangerous.

That is probably one of the safer parts of 92115. "The hood" is south of Monroe and west of 54th.
