I am flying in for an interview Nov 6th and will be spending the weekend
looking for a "higher-end" rental townhouse or condo.

By "higher-end" I mean hardwood floors, granite counter-tops, and a 2-Car
garage (a must). Something 1-5 years old in a nice area. I've been
researching on craigslist but wondered if there was a better place to look
online?

I have a week to get my game plan together..

Also:

The job is in Rancho Bernardo. I would like to live closer to the "ocean air"
but not be more than 20-25mins from work. I was thinking Carmel Valley or
Sorrento Valley would be the best places to look for my needs. Does this
seem reasonable and will I find the kind of "higher-end" rentals I am looking
for? (My budget is $2500, maybe a bit higher)

Thanks for all your suggestions..

"Single and looking" is not a good fit for Carmel Valley. CV is great for families with school-age kids.

I'd look in Del Mar and Solana Beach. Here's an example:
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/apa/1440622021.html (broken link)

Here's your commute:
from: Bernardo Center Dr, San Diego, California 92128 to: Del Mar Shores at S. Sierra Solana Beach CA US - Google Maps

Live on the beach while you're single. The family area can come later.

Craigslist is probably best for rentals in beach communities like Del Mar and Solana Beach. However, many property owners in the beach areas only advertise in the local community newspapers. You can usually find these newspapers at local restaurants and 7/11 type stores. Some owners just post signs in their yards or hang signs from their patios. Beach rentals are 'hot'. Not much advertising effort is needed to find tenants.

HotPads.com also seems to get good beach rental properties.

Thanks again cruitr

Hotpads has few entries but it has more pictures and better info on each
rental than craigslist. Great tip for a newcomer!!
