Ever since switching the clocks an hour back, I've noticed that traffic became heavier, most noticeably on my way home from work. My office is all the way in Del Mar right off the 5/805/56 corridor, and since I live in the Escondido/San Marcos area, I just take all the back roads and then Del Dios Highway. It's pretty bad.... I'll even so as far as saying it's a little worse than traffic during the summer time/Del Mar horse racing season. During the short time following summer (with very little tourists and schools are back in session), my drives were light and breezy... no waiting in long lines at traffic lights, etc.

So what's up with more people out? Is this just all because of the time switch and everyone deciding to go home because it's dark? I've always left my office at 5 with no problem, are people leaving work earlier now too or what?

It happens every year when the time changes and I can't stand it. I dunno what it is exactly but I suspect maybe people drive slower and/or worse overall since it's dark when they are going home now. People driving slower may make it appear like there is more traffic maybe.

Sometimes the sun in the eyes for those heading east in the morning and west in the afternoon which can be a combination of shorter days and the time change shift.

Same here, traffic seemed to magically increased out of nowhere, it's starting to look like LA on the 805 South around 5pm.

Tons of new housing developments going in, in the North County. That's part of the answer to worsening traffic.
