I've been looking on wunderground.com and seeing that Mt. Laguna is getting snowfall in the next few days. Is there any website that tell whether or not there's snow on the ground there? I know many times it snows and it doesn't stick--and although we want to go play in the snow, I'd hate to make the hour drive out there and have nothing.
Sass is right and also, it has to be a cold rain. The best snow is when the snow level is 4000 feet or lower. If there's snow at Laguna summit which is as I 8 and Sunrise Highway, there usually good snow up on the mountain itself. Even if they don't require chains, I'd take some anyway.
The storm they are predicting for Sunday-Monday is supposed to be a cold one with snow down to 4,000 ft.
The storm later in the week (Thurs-Fri) is predicted to be warmer, more tropical, and higher snow levels.
Now, whether any of this will actually happen is another story!
There will be probably 10,000 people up there next weekend and they will close off the mountain. I'm not kiidding as it happens the first snow every year. There is some patchy snow still up there as it has been getting in the 30s at night.
Whenever it snows at Mt. Laguna, it's always on the news. They show everyone trying to get there to look at it.
I lived in the DC area for most of my life, and couldn't wait to get away from that stuff!
I take it you don't have children that miss it and long to play in it, though, right? They had their first snow of the season over there yesterday and the pictures look beautiful. Of course, I am happy I don't have to shovel or navigate the snow mounds in the parking lots, but you can't deny the beauty and fun of a good snowfall!
