I'm moving to San Diego from Atlanta, Ga in a few months. My husband is in the Navy and will be stationed at North Island. I'm looking to go to law school at USD or in Orange County at UC Irvine. Does anyone know where we can look to split the difference between our commutes? We're looking for an apartment in a safe neighborhood with some character. Schools and affordability aren't really a concern. Any suggestions?

"Schools and affordability aren't really a concern."

So you have an unlimited budget for housing? Also, USD and UC Irvine are in very different locations. It would be very hard to 'split the difference' in your commutes until you make that decision.

What type of housing budget do you have? What do you want in a neighborhood? There's also other law schools - CalWestern and Thomas Jefferson. Cal Western is in the city, TJ is in Old Town.

We're looking at around $2k a month, maybe a little more, or less for a 2 bedroom place. The biggest concern is safety (i.e. low crime rates, well-lit, etc.). We're 20-somethings so ideally we'd like to be in a young, yuppie neighborhood.

For $2K+ you can get a nice safe place near the beach.

Bird Rock is an upscale beach area of La Jolla. Great for a young couple.

Here's an example rental: Great Location between La Jolla Village & the shops of Birdrock (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/apa/1549019044.html - broken link)
Checkout the photos and the map.
