I'm usually tolerant of drinking water out of the tap, but after moving to San Diego, I cannot stand the taste of the water.

As a result we've been buying 1 and 2 gallon jugs from the grocery store, but this is getting quite tiresome as I lug 2 or 3 jugs every week up and down to my apartment.

Does anyone use a water delivery service in town? Ones where they delivery 5 and 10 gallon jugs to your door. If so, recommendations are most welcome as well as prices you are paying for the service.

I used to just fill up gallon jugs at the 25 cent water dispensers, but I finally bought a pur brand water filter for my kitchen faucet. It tastes really good (way better than the Brita filters, IMO) and one filter lasts me 6 months.

Last weekend I bought a replacement pack of 2 filters for $30. That's a year's worth of good drinking/cooking water for a really nice price. (I live alone, though, so mileage may vary.. Although I do drink a *lot* of water)

I have my water delivered by DS Waters (Sparkletts). They're very reasonable, and normally have specials on their website. I got mine by a marketing rep knocking on my door, about the time I was thinking about filling up my one gallon bottles, and what a hassle it was to bring them in. The only thing that I had changed after I started my service was switching from the 5 gallon bottles to the 3 gallon bottles.

The water does taste pretty bad here, I know you are tired of carrying gallons of water around, but the 99 Cents store has a gallon of Geyser bottled water for 99.99 cents depending on how much water you drink or use, It's best to buy like 5 gallons all at once, so you don't have to keep hauling gallons of water every other day or so up to your apartment.

Also a cheaper way to save money, have you ever tried Zero Water? It's an awesome water filter that you can buy at Target. It's way better than Brita or any other water filter I have used in the past. I use this at home, it works great, it removes all the chemicals and hard metals in the water, and the taste is smooth and clean it also comes with a little water meter thingy, the filters are huge and last a long time.

I buy the 36 pack of waters at costco for ~$4.00, and then have sierra springs deliver 6 .5 gallon bottles ($7) and a pack of 24 mountain spring bottles ($8) every few weeks.

I fill up my small water bottles from the cooler. But about every six months, I'll buy a case of water to get new bottles. It normally costs me about $7.69 per month to have two 3 gallon bottles delivered.

We also have a filter on our kitchen sink. I don't remember the brand. We bought it at Sears. Once a year we replace the two filter cartridges. Buying water, even in bulk, comes with two problems: (1) where to store it until it's used, and (2) how to dispose of all the excess plastic - namely the bottles.

My water comes out of a cooler, and I give my old plastic bottles to my neighbor for recycling.

Problem 1: I agree with the issue of where to store it

Problem 2: I don't agree, as there are recycling programs in place

Let me add another problem which I believe is an issue:
Problem 3: Bottled water often strips the water of natural minerals which our body needs. I worry that buying bottled water may end up hurting me since I'm used to the tap water.
