My family and I are moving from St. Louis to San Diego. Our son will be turning 11 and is playing select soccer for St. Louis Scott Gallagher. We would like more info on select/club soccer in San Diego. Any help would be appreciated. We will be living in Poway area but would be willing to commute anywhere in San Diego. Thanks for any help!!!

the best clubs are:
-San Diego Surf
- Nomads
- Albion

Carlsbad Lightning is okay, but if you are hoping for him to get college exposure dont bother.
Del Mar/Carmel Valley Sharks- decent

I would avoid having him on any team in the Presidio League because it is pretty much dominated by SD surf. Its not as competitive as the coast league, which spans from santa barbara to south orange county, including Riverside and San Bernardino. A lot of SD teams actually play in the coast league too. Just remember that Coast League is going to be a step up from any other league. Its extremely competitive.

Best of luck!

Original poster, in addition to these, ...this may not help but Don Ebert, former St. Louis soccer star is affiliated with the Irvine Strikers, and St. Louisans have long ties to the Pateadores as well. These are L.A. based club teams though.

St. Louis Scott Gallagher of course is one of the best youth club soccer programs in the country.

My husband's nephew plays soccer in college;he played for torrey pines high school [carmel valley] as well.
he played with the sharks club.
manchester is also good.
he also played nationally--he's a high level player, and these teams were sought out by his parents for that 'track'. Definitely college exposure.
poway is not that far from CV,probably a 20 min. drive down the 56.

He doesn't have an interest in hockey, but he has expressed a new interest in Lacrosse. Thanks for all the help. He has 4-5 private try-out scheduled right when we get there. After talking with a few directors, we are leaning toward Albion.

My recommendation is to enroll your son in a real sport, a sport which isn't made fun of by most boys. Maybe then he won't hate you as much when he grows up.

OK, joke over. The city runs many youth sports programs out of most city Athletic Centers (there is one in most neighborhoods) getting him involved in a sports league is as easy as going to the rec cen and signing him up.
