El Dorado Hills has a a few nice, upscale areas of custom homes in the price range you are mentioning, unless you want a 6000 SF home. Also the vacant lots are larger and priced 1/3-1/2 what they were 3 years ago. Areas such as Serrano, The Summit, Southpointe to name a few.
