Anywhere can seem lonely when you first move there. It takes time to meet people. Work and school are usually the easiest ways due to the day to day ongoing contact, even if it's just evening classes for fun. Or try Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup.com to see if anyone has common interest groups that you can join into.

It also really helps if you make the first move. Waiting for people to approach you can be a very long wait. Many are either busy, distracted or shy, but might welcome someone new.

pick your company carefully.
think church think community activity.
think self improvement classes.
think less of hang out people, the bars are full of them.
like flies they eventually find fly paper.

im already in tons of meetup.com groups.. been to a few meetups.. didnt help much.. you talk to people, etc.. end of day everyone goes home.. almost like they r not looking to make new friends..

im 24yr, i own a biz and work from home, therefore no chance for meeting coworkers.. i graduated college already but i guess i can enroll and take some classes again.. its just getting depressing..

i moved to panama, didnt know the language, yet had many friends by the first 2 weeks.. how did you social butterflies here make friends

Welcome to San Diego! We've been here for almost 2 years now and have found people to be very flaky here. Easy to meet them, hard to maintain those relationships. Most refuse to step out of their social circles!
