The Bay Area...
The Los Angeles Peninsula (there now)
San Diego area...

My friends...I was born in the Midwest...people are different there, but they're not all perfectly friendly either, especially to a liberal mindset. People are people everywhere. But a larger population makes more opportunities to find like-minded people...Or so I've found...

Most of the problems discussed here seem to be everywhere. I've heard people complain of their place being bad from HI to Key West, FL to Denver. In my honest opinion, no intention of attitude against the members who have voiced their opinion (yay America!) but it's mostly...you guessed it! Attitude! I've seen people who thought Hawaii as a cesspool, and people who thought it was heaven. Same with Key West, FL. Some people never wanted to leave, I couldn't wait to get away from the apathetic attitude of drink, party, and die...why? Cause I was 27...and had yet to even start college! Timing? Absolutely!

The reason I'm posting on here is that I live in West LA...and when the GI Bill turns soon from Santa Monica College, I've got UCLA on the list...but I've heard wonderous things about the program in San Diego. Am I worried about rent? Nope...income? a little, I have a decent job in West LA...but less than 25k a year here won't do it...sorry! So I'm not a tremendous loyalist on that one. I want warmer than LA, but close enough to come if need be. I've been to San Diego's gas light district, and noticed that to GO INTO a bar cost like $20....not my thing! But then again, I mostly drink at home with buddies anyway. I'll find one out there somewhere! I've found that good people are everywhere if you exhibit some people skills and most of all, TRY!

I've always been impressed with San Diego, and am also thinking of San Francisco area too for school for the Bachelor's level...Why? Cause I'm from Fort Wayne, IN...and to me it's all too damn expensive! LOL...but seriously, sell me onto this...If I only last in CA for a few years, which is highly possible due to income restraints (you never know) and am packing up and moving back East to the Midwest at the very least I'd want to say I'd experienced CA...I think that's what its about for people like me.

Crime? Everywhere...one block of Duval Street in Key West people dealt drugs and stole bicycles in front of my house...a sleeping vagrant right next to my apartment the other day...in WEST LA!!! I've seen crime in the corn fields in Indiana...and gangs, yes, real ones, in Denver...which still makes me laugh a bit, sorry, just an image of a mountain lion chasing someone with their pants half down...ok...I'm back now....So someone, please paraphrase for me, by msg if (no hijack law) needbe, about the major differences between the three largest population areas in CA (Bay area, LA Peninsula, and San Diego area...please!)

ha I'm from Richmond, south of Fort Wayne San Diego is not as big as LA, not as compact / urban as SF. It is cleaner, more family friendly. But in any urban area of 500,000 or more ( SD 1.3 million) you will be able to find people/neighborhoods to fit your lifestyle. Good Luck

You didn't mention which school? Where have you been accepted? Where have you applied? You don't just pick SDSU over Berkeley because you want to live in San Diego, that would be a foolish decision.

Get a good education so you can make enough money to live in any of these cities... they aren't going anywhere.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're asking, but I think I get the gist of it (kind of like a marry/screw/kill type of question). That said, if I was put to a decision with that question in mind, here's what I would go with:

San Diego - Marry
San Francisco - Screw
Los Angeles - Kill (only by default, I am fond of LA)

I think that this probably doesn't help you but I wanted to voice my opinion.

No worries, I just realized that I copied and pasted some of my question...we all have our moments...lol.

to answer your questions, I have been accepted because I'm transferring from SMC in Santa Monica, which not only uses the IGETC, but also guarantees UC transferrance, one of the reasons I selected them while my first year of residency starts.

I'm doing good research on everything, but I love to hear from people who live and have lived there too, as in my opinion, the magazine always shows the best angles...you know?

Richmond? Wow...hello fellow Hoosier! At least it's not lazy muncie! HA!
