My wife and I recently moved to San Diego and I'd like to take her out to eat somewhere nice with a view of the ocean/sunset.

What do you guys recommend? I've done some searching out on the net but figured I'd come ask the locals and see what you guys/gals think.

Thanks!

My personal favorite in Del Mar....(Jake's) and right next to it (Poseidon). Can't go wrong with either. Great views of the ocean really good food not cluttered with tourists like La Jolla or downtown.

Or the Lighthouse on Harbor Island. Tom Ham owns both restaurants.

At least up in North County, great food and great ocean views are sort of mutually exclusive. The best foodie restaurants (Market, Mille Fleurs, Blanca, Pomplemosse Grill, etc.) don't have ocean views, while those with ocean views (Jake's, Chart House, Beach House, Brigantine) get by with serving up decent to good food. That said, you can't go wrong with the beach view restaurants, it's just that you could do better foodwise -- even if you can't beat the view. Dang, no kids? I'd be happy at In n Out with just my wife and I!! Have fun!

Agree. Also Wine Vault in Mission Hills is recommended. Trust me, and please report back to us.

Ended up making reservations at Jake's in Del Mar for tonight. Looking forward to it! Will definitely try out some of the other suggestions that were mentioned. Thanks!
