Will be heading to SF this weekend for some Giants games. We are staying in South SF but have a car and don't mind driving. Looking for some yummy restaurants that won't break our budget. Mainly American food is my choice cause I'm pretty picky.

I know when I was a kid and we used to visit, they had those delicious clam chowder bread bowls somewhere on Fisherman's Wharf or near that area... is that correct, and still there?

oh and totally off subject... are the sea lions back?? I only heard they were all gone and never heard an update...

Thanks for input!!

Sixteen Mile House in Millbrae is a very good steakhouse that won't break the bank, and is mainly known to locals, not tourists.. other than that, the upper peninsula is better for Chinese food than American style. I don't know much about SF itself so I'll pass on that part of the question.

The clam chowder bowls are still there at various locations on Fisherman's Wharf. I saw the sea lions 3 weekends ago- in fact, one of them had just born a baby pup and the seagulls were trying to scavenge the placenta- it was quite a spectacle as the other sea lions were trying to protect the baby by intimidating the seagulls away.

I used Yelp and found these good restaurants on Fisherman's Wharf:

And these in SoMa:

Yelp is the deal. Off the top I'd go to North Beach and eat at Calzone's or Steps Of Rome, downtown Kuletto's or Le Colonial, near the wharf Ana Mandara or Houston's. Your in one of the dinning mecca's of the world time to step out of your comfort zone!

The Michelin Guide - San Francisco

Some are priced fairly for Michelin-starred establishments.
