That's a pretty general question! What are you interested in, beyond the obvious stuff all the tourist guidebooks will tell you about?

If I asked, "What should I see if I go to Philly??" I think you'd understand it was a pretty generic question. What kind of things do you like to do? Are you an outdoor person looking for walks, hikes, runs. Are you interested in architecture or food or history or wine?

It sounds like you are looking for the "classic" SF sites, so there is also Sutro Tower, Ferry Building, Chinatown, Golden Gate Park, and Ocean Beach (stay out of the water, really, I'm serious). SF and the Bay Area is pretty interesting and has about a million things to do. Going to Berkeley might also be interesting if you have the time.

I suggest visiting the Cable Car Museum, Chinatown, Coit Tower, the Japanese Tea Garden & Alcatraz.

If it's your first to SF, I suggest taking a city tour of some sort. I see those double-decker, hop on/hop off, buses all the time. They hit just about every major sight-seeing location in the city in a few hours, plus you can get off and explore and hook up with the next tour bus that comes by. They're really pretty cool for someone who's never been wherever he or she is going. That way you don't have to know any specific place you want to see and how to get there because you'll see most of them on the tour.

'Cause it's frickin cold!

As a recent transplant from the 215 myself, I can attest that your impression of California is very different from the reality of Northern California. It never really warms up on the coasts - but it also never gets terribly cold either. It's just kind of weird when you're used to seasons.

When you get there... don't refer to it as San Fran or Frisco. For whatever reason that pisses them off. They all refer to it as 'the city'.
