I have to be at San Jose (willow glen area) at 10 AM-ish. I cant figure out which way is faster. So far I have gone 24 to 680 and it ALWAYS slows up at 580 and stays slow till the sunol grade (is it always like that?). The next option was to take 24 to 880, but that also seems slow. The fastest way I have found is taking 24 to 13 to 580 then cut over to 238 and take 880 the rest of the way. Is this the fastest way? And how do I get back the fastest at around 5PM? Any ideas will help greatly. Thank you.

It appears that taking 24 to 13 to 580 to 880 is the fastest and going back as well. Does anybody do this commute? Or one similair to it?

There has been road construction on 680 for the past couple weeks. When that's done later this year, 24 to 680 will become your best option. In the meantime, the 13/580/880 route will be quicker, especially since they have finished the construction project on 238. I would still take that route in the PM, especially on getaway Thursday/Fridays. There's nothing in the pipeline to ease the gridlock on northbound 680.

Thank you for your response. Thankfully I am only doing this for one more month, else I would pull my hair out. Every time I do 680, there is always traffic from 580 interchange to Sunol grade. Taking 880/580/13/24, there is traffic here and there on 880 with 580 and 13 being clear except on random days/times there seems to be a lot or just a tiny bit of traffic at the 13/24 interchange because of the tunnel.

Yes.

I used to use that trick when I lived near the Berkeley - Albany border commuting to Southern San Mateo County and later to South Fremont.

I don't envy the fact you have to go clear through the lion's share of SJ after slogging down the inner East Bay ... ugh! Now THAT's a commute!
