How much do waiters in SF make with tips? You could get a studio in the Richmond for 7-800 per month.

A studio at that price would be rare even in the Richmond, expect to pay more like $900-1200. If you're lucky you can find studios for as low as $650 in decent areas like the Marina but studios are VERY rare to be less than $900.

If you live with roommates you can live pretty much anywhere in the city for about $650-800 a month.

Well there is work for waiters, I doubt you would have much trouble acquiring your job, but without a generous base of tips it would be a close one to have your own place. As listed you can room for 600 easy.

I couldn't disagree more. Waiter jobs in San Francisco are not easy to land! Many waiters in SF make incredible money because they have coveted jobs in busy, expensive restaurants. The truth is that unless you have a lot of experience in high-end restaurants, you will be at the back of a very long line to get a job at a good restaurant. Even the less-fancy places like those giant seafood barns in the Wharf are hard to land a job at because there is so much tip money to be made upselling wine to tourists that the waiters are generally career table servers with a long list of connections and past experience. I have known more than a few waiters who could legitimately boast six-figure incomes from tips. In many cities, "waiter" is a dillweed job that is a good backup plan for young folks. In SF, waiting tables and tending bar can be a serious career, and getting hired will NOT be easy. Yes, there are a million restaurants, but when spots come open, other career waiters are waiting in the wings to fill those jobs.

I agree with this. Waiters that make a very good salary have a lot of high end experience, i.e. professional waiters. Many have knowledge of proper wine service, be able to properly read tables, "up sell" and act in a professional manner and must understand cooking terminology and how the menu was prepared.

Of course you will probably be able to get a job waiting tables, but not in one of those high paying type upscale establishments. . You can always start at the bottom and work your way up to gain the experience/knowledge, but be prepared for living with a couple of roommates.
